Brazil is close to open the Japanese market for beef
Japan is the third largest importer of beef in the world, with 80% of this volume coming from the United States and Australia. Brazil, the world's largest exporter of the product, supplies around 160 countries and has been seeking this qualification for almost two decades.
ABIEC (Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries) has been actively working to make this achievement possible, together with the Brazilian government and the production sector. In the last two years, technical and diplomatic missions have recorded significant progress, with health inspections carried out by Japanese authorities. ABIEC president Roberto Perosa has been to Japan several times to discuss the issue and highlighted that Brazil has one of the most advanced health control systems in the world, rigorously complying with the requirements of highly demanding markets, such as the United States, the European Union and China.
Entering the Japanese market would allow Brazil to compete with the country's main suppliers and further strengthen its position as a global benchmark in quality and sustainability. Furthermore, Brazilian meat exports would complement local production in Japan, ensuring greater supply to Japanese consumers without impacting the country's production chain.
