Brazil gets access to the Canadian pork market

Brazilian pork gains access to the Canadian market, as both parties have agreed to allow pig meat and pork products produced in establishments located in the State Santa Catarina to be shipped to Canada. "At the time of the initial request, the state was the only one recognized as free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, which is a criterion established by the Canadian authorities. Negotiations will continue for the inclusion, in the future, of new areas already recognized with the same status by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE)," informs the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
Also, pork exports from Santa Catarina represent just over 50% of the sector's shipments, according to statistical data. Brazilian pork exports for the first two months of the year totaled 146,000 tonnes, a volume that is 1.3% higher than the one reported in the same period last year.
