Brazil: Pork exports grow 10 percent and reach record levels in 2024

Surveys by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) show that Brazilian pork exports (considering all products, both fresh and processed) totaled 1,352 million tons between January and December 2024, setting a new record for the sector . The number exceeds the total exported in 2023 by 10%, with 1,229 million tons.

The sector's annual export revenue exceeded the US$ 3 billion mark for the first time. In total, US$3,033 billion was obtained from exports in 2024, a balance 7.6% higher than that achieved in the previous year, with US$2,818 billion.

At the end of 2024, pork shipments totaled 109.5 thousand tons, a figure 1.3% lower than in the same period of the previous year, with 110.9 thousand tons. In terms of revenue, there was a strong increase of 11.6%, with US$258.3 billion in the last month of 2024, compared to US$231.5 billion in the same period of the previous year. 

Among export destinations, the Philippines ended the year taking first place, with 254.3 thousand tons between January and December 2024, a figure 101.8% higher than that achieved in 2023. Next are China, with 241 thousand tons (-38%), Chile, with 113 thousand tons (+29.1%), Hong Kong, with 106.9 thousand tons (-15.5%), Japan, with 93.4 thousand tons (+131.6%), Singapore, with 79.1 thousand tons (+23%), Vietnam, with 52.5 thousand tons (+9.7%), Uruguay, with 46.6 thousand tons (-5.2%), and Mexico, with 42.8 thousand tons ( +49.9%).

"The sector closed 2024 with a significant increase in the capillarity of its exports, significantly increasing revenue from shipments and raising the monthly average of shipments by more than 10 thousand tons. The indicators remain positive in 2025, with a tendency to maintain flow to Asian countries and the Americas", analyzes the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

Santa Catarina closed 2024 as the largest exporter of pork in Brazil, with 730.7 thousand tons (+10.1%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul, with 289.9 thousand tons (+3.2%), Paraná, with 185.5 thousand tons (+9.1% ), Mato Grosso, with 37.9 thousand tons (+22%) and Mato Grosso do Sul, with 29.2 thousand tons (+17.97%).
