Brazil: Pork exports exceed 100 000 tons in December

The  Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA)  informs that Brazilian pork exports (considering all products, between  fresh  and processed) totaled 102.8 thousand tons in December, volume 14, 6% higher than that registered in the twelfth month of 2021, with 89.7 thousand tons.

In revenue, the increase reached 32.5%, with US$ 253.8 million in December last year, compared to US$ 191.5 million in 2021.

With the performance recorded in December, total exports for 2022 reached 1.120 million tons, a volume 1.4% lower than that recorded in the same period of the previous year, with 1.137 million tons.

The total revenue generated last year reached US$ 2.572 billion, a result 2.6% lower than that recorded in 2021, with US$ 2.641 billion.

In the survey by country, China (main destination) imported 53.5 thousand tons in December, a volume 79.6% greater than that carried out in the same period of 2021, with 29.8 thousand tons. Other highlights were Chile, with 5.8 thousand tons (+68.7%), Uruguay, with 4.4 thousand tons (+3.8%) and Angola, with 3.6 thousand tons (+84%).

According to the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, the monthly average of exports in volume recorded in the second half of 2022 is the highest in history, and contributed to the year’s shipments reaching numbers close to those registered in 2021 – a historic record year for the sector.

“Monthly sales recorded from July to December averaged over 100,000 tons, something unprecedented for the sector, which recovered the performance seen in the first half, with an average of 85,000 tons. The foreign exchange generated reduced the pressure resulting from the current levels of production costs, which are historical”, evaluates Santin.
