Brazil: Chicken meat exports grow 3 percent and reach new record in 2024

Chicken meat exports (considering all products, both fresh and processed) ended 2024 with a 3% increase, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). In total, 5.294 million tons were shipped in the twelve months of last year, compared to 5.138 million tons in 2023. This is the largest export volume ever recorded by the sector.

A record was also recorded with export revenues between January and December 2024, reaching US$ 9.928 billion, a balance 1.3% higher than the total obtained in 2023, with US$ 9.796 billion. 

In the last month of 2024, the sector exported 448.7 thousand tons, a figure 4% lower than the balance in December 2023, with 467.2 thousand tons. In terms of revenue, there was an increase of 4.6%, reaching US$ 856.9 million in December last year, against US$ 818.9 million in the same period of the previous year. 

"The year’s balance confirms ABPA’s expectations and also points to new levels established in average shipments, exceeding 440 thousand tons per month. The indicators remain positive for 2025, with possibilities of new monthly increases and projections of numbers relatively higher than those achieved in the previous year, indicating the maintenance of the profitability of the sector’s agribusinesses", assesses ABPA’s president, Ricardo Santin. 

In the ranking of the main importers of chicken meat from Brazil in 2024 (January to December), China ended the year in first place with 562.2 thousand tons (-17.6% compared to the previous year), followed by the United Arab Emirates, with 455.1 thousand tons (+3.3%), Japan, with 443.2 thousand tons (+2.2%), Saudi Arabia, with 370.8 thousand tons (-1.6%), South Africa, with 325.4 thousand tons (-4.4%), the Philippines, with 234.8 thousand tons (+7%), the European Union, with 231.9 thousand tons (+6.9%), Mexico, with 212.5 thousand tons (+22.6%), Iraq, with 179.8 thousand tons (+18.1%) and South Korea, with 155.8 thousand tons (-22.8%).

Among the exporting states, Paraná remains in the lead, with 2.174 million tons (+4.1%), followed by Santa Catarina, with 1.167 million tons (+5.7%), Rio Grande do Sul, with 692 thousand tons (-6.32%), São Paulo, with 297.2 thousand tons (+1.6%) and Goiás, with 243.9 thousand tons (+3%).
