Belgian poultry subsidiary in Poland closes operations

The coronavirus crisis is already impacting a poultry producer in Poland. EC Poland, a poultry plant in Swietokrzyskie, owned by a Belgian group is shutting down its activities. More than 60% of the workers in the unit are to be sent home due to financial problems that appeared in the last 6 months. The reduction of personnel by 2/3 practically means the suspension of the plant's operation.

According to unofficial information, EC Poland intends to suspend the operation of the plant by the end of the year and the decisions on group layoffs do not mean the company's liquidation. In 2018, EC Poland bought the famous WiR meat plant, specialized in poultry processing. most of the production was exported in Belgium but the problems with orders and livestock deliveries began after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The company tried to deal with the pandemic from the beginning, but the problems were beyond its ability, reports Echo Dnia magazine.
