Belarus is working to open the Turkish market for beef
In the following months, Belarus can re-route some of the volumes of beef exported in Russia to the Turkish market due to restriction applied by the Russian authorities for bone-in beef.
According to Belta news agency, Belarus intends to get the right to export beef to Turkey by the end of the year.
"In the last few months, we worked out compensation mechanisms, including sales of bone-in beef on new markets. We are now working hard to penetrate the Turkish market. The matter was discussed during the session of the relevant intergovernmental commission several months ago. We and our Turkish colleagues agreed that the process will begin. Our applications are in Turkey already. They have been approved. We hope we will be able to start selling Belarusian beef on the Turkish market soon, by the end of the year," declared Aleksei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
Russia was the main market for Belarusian beef in 2018, accounting for 96% of the beef exported.
