Avian flu spreads through Spain

23 bird flu outbreaks have been reported so far in Spain, with the last 5 reported this week on commercial farms in the province of Sevilla. Most of those enterprises were turkey farms, according to data released by the Spanish authorities. Also, all new outbreaks are within the restriction zone radius (ZR) of previous outbreaks reported in the area. The new cases were reported on a breeding hen farm located in the municipality of Gilena (Sevilla), with an approximate census of 22,600 birds; a fattening turkey farm, also located in Gilena, with an approximate census of 6,000 birds; and three other fattening turkey farms in the municipalities of Osuna, El Rubio and Martín de la Jara, with 93,500, 26,880 and 5,500 birds, respectively.
In addition, 24 avian flu cases were reported in wild birds in Spain this year.
