Avian flu reported in Germany
Bird flu virus H5N8 was reported in Germany last week, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). 44 birds were killed in the outbreak and 25 others have bee culled by the vet authorities. "No meat, birds or other animal products have entered the supply chain," said a report issued by German authorities from the Baden-Wurttemberg land.
In January, the virus has been confirmed in wild birds in the Brandenburg land, close to the Polish border. Since the beginning of the year, the virus has affected several farms in Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine and Hungary. Poland and Hungary were the countries most affected by the situation due to the presence of the H5N8 virus in large-scale farms.
