Australia is preparing a generation of food innovators

24 young entrepreneurs are standing as the new wave of food innovators in Australia and New Zealand after they graduated from the MLA Donor Company-supported Insights2Innovation Young Food Innovators program last week.

The program supported by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Water Resources as part of its Rural R&D for Profit program and is looking to develop new opportunities in domestic or export markets, implement innovative business models or accelerate the adoption of new disruptive technologies.

13 participants in this program are representing the red meat sector, while the others are developing new innovations in seafood, pork, dairy, and horticulture.

MLA Managing Director Richard Norton said Young Food Innovators provided the red meat industry with a highly skilled group of specialists identifying high value opportunities in export and domestic markets.

"Young Food Innovators has been a great example of industry cross-sector collaboration and it's the ability to collaborate quickly and effectively to respond to a changing marketplace which will see the Australian food sector well placed to cope with future food demands," he said.
