Aussie beef sent to China by airplane
Aussie beef exporters have appealed to new ways to send their products in the Chinese market without being impacted by the logistics jam in the main Chinese ports. To improve the flexibility of the supply chain and the situation of cargo deployment, a batch of Australian chilled beef, weighing 96.88 tonnes, was shipped to Shanghai Pudong International Airport. This is the first time that chilled beef arrived at Shanghai airport by chartered airplane, mentioned B2B platform Beef to China.
Nevertheless, that couldn't erase the impact that China's lockdown in front of coronavirus outbreak had on exports, especially on meat shipments sent to China.
Statistical data show that from January to February 2020, the shipments of Australian beef to Mainland China were 37,758 tonnes, including 33,153 tonnes of frozen beef and 4,605 tonnes of chilled beef. Mainland China ranks first among all export destinations of Australian frozen beef, but ranks fourth among all export destinations of chilled beef, just next to Japan, the United States, and South Korea.
That is a major change in the dynamic of the market considering that in 2019, it was China that helped Australia to becom the world's most valuable beef exporter, with the total value of beef exported last year totaled $7.5 billion, of which $1.85 billion came from China.
