Aurora Alimentos shuts down poultry production at one of its facilities
The company said in a statement that it will put 1,283 workers on paid leave for a period of 30 days starting July 2 at its poultry plant located in Guatambu, in the Santa Catarina state. The production capacity at this unit reached 29.5 million slaughtered chickens per year.
Aurora Alimentos had previously announced that it will temporarily halt operations at its poultry facility from Aberlado Luz that is also situated in Santa Catarina. Here the company holds 1,391 employees and produces 33.5 million chickens annually.
The company has been forced to take these measures after it had been impacted by the European Union's decision to ban poultry imports from Brazil and by the increased feed costs.
Representatives from Aurora Alimentos said that the company is also taking into consideration the posibility of temporarily shutting down operations at a third poultry plant.
