Argentine: Extreme deficit in water supply

The drought is relentless throughout the country and according to official estimates, some 12.4 million head of cattle are at risk.
According to a report prepared by the National Drought Monitoring Board, the intensification of water deficit conditions raised the determination of severe drought in 53 departments in the center of the country.
In total, there are some 140 million hectares nationwide that are in extreme water deficit.
In September, the bulk of the rains were recorded in the NOA, north of Cuyo and central Patagonia. On the opposite side, the core region recorded -once again- a deficit month, a scenario that moved to the province of Buenos Aires and worsened water stress conditions. "Some localities recorded the driest September in decades," they warned.
The impact on production
The area with the greatest impact is central Argentina, in the area delimited by the south of Santa Fe, north of Buenos Aires and south of Entre Ríos. At this point, it was revealed that for 11 months there has been an impact on winter crops, a decrease in pasture for cattle and a delay in summer plantings due to lack of humidity.
