Argentina is getting closer to open the Japanese beef market

Argentina is getting closer to open the Japanese beef market in 2020, with a Japanese inspection visiting last week farms, slaughterhouses and processing units in the whole country, according to data shared by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Luis Miguel Etchevehere.
So far, only Patagonia has the right to export beef to Japan, the province being declared free of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) without vaccination. If the report is positive, Argentinian beef can be exported to Japan from the whole country, announced the minister. "One more step to access this important market that will allow us to expand to generate more work in each corner from the country", said Luis Miguel Etchevehere.
Currently, Argentina is exporting more than 20% of its beef to China but this situation is seen as dangerous through the higher exposure on one market. Nevertheless, the beef exports to China are expected to rise next year, according to a USDA report. The US agency predicted that Argentina will ship almost 775 thousand tons of carcass equivalent, 10% more than this year.
