Animal protein consumption in 2024 will be the highest in history

According to the association's forecasts, Brazil is expected to end the year reaching the milestone of 56.9 billion units of eggs produced on farms from north to south of the country. This is a record number, and is 8.5% higher than the production recorded in the previous year, with 52,448 billion units.

Production, according to ABPA president Ricardo Santin, has been driven by the increase in protein consumption, which is expected to end the year at the highest level in the sector's history.

According to the association's projections, each Brazilian should consume up to 263 units over the 12 months of this year, 21 units more than in 2023, when the index reached 242 units.

"It will be more competitive to produce eggs in 2024. Costs are more adjusted and consumers have been demanding more of the product. The outlook for the sector is positive and our indicators point to an increase in consumption levels for next year. In addition to being one of the most versatile and affordable proteins available, eggs are already recognized by consumers of all classes and consumption profiles as one of the most complete foods available. Precisely for this reason, eggs are no longer seen as just a simple product and have become a food that has an influence on both food safety and public health", says ABPA president Ricardo Santin.

World Egg Day is celebrated in all egg-producing and -consuming nations. This is the case of Brazil, which is currently the fifth largest producer of this protein, and maintains consumption levels well above the international average, which is 230 units.
