Alimentaria Barcelona is postponed until May 2021

Alimentaria Barcelona, one of the most important food, beverage and foodservice show in Spain and one of the most outstanding in Europe, will take place from May 17 to 20, 2021. Fira de Barcelona has agreed with the sector on the new dates for the event, with the aim of celebrating it next year with the maximum possible participation and internationality. The Organizing Committee of the Alimentaria show, made up of the main associations and companies in the sector, has decided this change in the calendar taking into account the characteristics and needs of the industry in the current context derived from the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the magnitude and internationality of an event that in its last edition, together with Hostelco, brought together 4,500 companies and 150,000 professional visitors, 25% of which came from abroad, informs Retail Actual magazine.

The president of Alimentaria, Josep Lluís Bonet, stressed that "the decision supports the majority will of the productive and associative fabric of the sector, betting on holding the event in a more favourable environment and without so many limitations on international mobility. Our common objective is As always, be a great tool for the industry, its projection and get the best edition and participation possible."
According to an estimate made for Europe, the trade fairs industry has lost at least €28 billion this year. Likewise, Alimentaria is described as one of the engines of the Catalan economy, with an impact of €900 million, including both the activity carried out by Fira de Barcelona to organize it, as well as the expenses of exhibitors and visitors and the business generated by the exhibiting companies as a result of its celebration, according to a recent study by the University of Barcelona.
