ASSICA celebrates the opening of the Chinese market
Italy has received the right to export frozen pork and offals to China after 15 years of negotiations between Rome and Beijing. Until now, Italy can export only raw hams and cooked pork in this market.
"Without the constancy and determination that our institutions have shown in these years we would not have achieved this excellent result which, I can proudly affirm, is also a result of the collaboration that ASSICA has always guaranteed in all the stages of negotiations with the Chinese authorities, " said Nicola Levoni, President of Associazione Industriali delle Carni e dei Salumi (ASSICA).
The Chinese Customs Authorities have officially confirmed the approval of the health certificate and the list of slaughterhouses authorized to export frozen pork and offals to China. 9 Italian plants are already prepared to send their first shipments to China, while Mr. Levoni hopes to see their number growing and also believes that this is an important step to open soon the market for cured meat products.
Lately, China has started to import more pork from Europe as the ASF situation has affected domestic production by 26%.
