ASF virus keeps rolling through Vietnam

Four new Vietnamese provinces (Hai Duong, Hoa Binh, Dien Bien and Thai Nguyen) have reported African Swine Fever outbreaks in the last 7 days. In fact, during last week 46 case were reported in the Asian country, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
By now the virus has spread in 10 provinces, with Thai Binh province registering the biggest number of outbreaks, 38.
More than 2,500 animals have been susceptible to carry the virus. Vietnam's pig sector is characterized by small farms with low levels of biosecurity. Pork accounts for 65% of the meat consumed by the Vietnamese and most of the pork for the 30 million farm-raised pigs are consumed domestically.
Vietnamese authorities are trying to stop the virus from spreading across the country since the last week of February when it was first reported on three farms n the northern provinces of Thai Binh and Hung Yen, close to the Chinese border.
