ASF reported on a Polish farm of about 6,000 pigs

A new case of African Swine Fever (ASF) was reported in Poland on a farm located in Orla, Podlasie province. About 6,000 pigs have been exposed to the virus, according to the State Veterinary Institute - National Research Institute in Pu?awy.
The breeding facility is the largest in the province and it is located in an area covered by constraints related to the occurrence of ASF, reports Portal Spozzywczy.
Polish authorities have suggested building a fence along the eastern borders with Ukraine and Belarus in order to stop the transmission of disease from spreading but no final decision has been taken yet.
The first case of the presence of this disease virus - harmless to humans, but contagious and lethal to pigs and wild boars - was revealed in Poland in February 2014. Since then, Poland has been struck by other 113 outbreaks, with 2,200 animals involved. Besides Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, other countries in the region such as Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Republic of Moldavia announced that they have found farm pigs or wild boars with ASF.
