ABPA: Chicken meat exports grew 4.7 percent in February

Export revenue generated in the second month of this year reached US$707 million. The number is 4% lower than the total recorded in the same period of the previous year, with US$736.3 million.

In the first two months of this year, chicken meat exports total 802.2 thousand tons, a volume 0.3% higher than that achieved in the first two months of 2023, with 800.1 thousand tons. Accumulated revenue in the period reached US$ 1,390 billion, a balance 12.7% lower than the comparative period of 2023, with US$ 1,593 billion.

"It was the best February in history and could have been even better, under normal conditions, without the delays generated by the standard operation currently underway. In any case, we expect a positive year due to the influence, in particular, of sales to Islamic nations and certain destinations in Asia", highlights the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin.

Among the five main destinations for Brazilian chicken meat exports in the first two months are China, with 80.4 thousand tons (a number 28% lower than the previous year), the United Arab Emirates, with 78.2 thousand tons (+27.7%) , Japan, with 76.6 thousand tons (+26.2%), Saudi Arabia, with 67.6 thousand tons (+8.4%) and South Africa, with 50 thousand tons (-19%).

"The beginning of the year is a period that is strongly influenced by the pre-Ramadan import flow, the sacred period for the Islamic religion. In this context, in addition to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, we saw notable growth in exports to Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait and other destinations in the region, especially in a context of certain uncertainties due to conflicts in the region", highlights the director of ABPA markets, Luís Rua.

Paraná continues to be the largest exporter of chicken meat in Brazil, with 326.4 thousand tons exported in the first two months of this year, a number 0.1% lower than that recorded in 2023. Next are Santa Catarina, with 183 thousand tons (+4 .8%), Rio Grande do Sul, with 112.8 thousand tons (-0.5%), São Paulo, with 42.8 thousand tons (-1.74%) and Goiás, with 36.7 thousand tons (+5.3%).
