16 tonnes of ready-to-eat pork and beef products recalled in the US

Fairmont Foods, Inc., a Fairmont, Minnesota establishment, is recalling approximately 35,145 pounds (15.9 tonnes) of ready-to-eat pork and beef gravy products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically clear pliable plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

The frozen, ready-to-eat pork and beef gravy items were produced on May 2, 2019, for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant locations in Louisiana. The firm contacted FSIS after they received a report that a consumer found a piece of the soft pliable plastic in the product.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in restaurant freezers. Restaurants are urged not to serve the product. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase, informs the federal agency.
