"Animal Terrorism" is spreading through Europe
Spanish National Police force is investigating a series of attacks that took place last week in Granda, Asturia, and targeted some vans owned by a meat producer in the area.
Two vans of a company in the parish of Granda (Gijón) appeared burned and it was found that accelerating substances had been used to cause the fire.
The action, claimed by the Animal Liberation Front, is not an isolated incident in Asturias, where in recent times similar attacks have also occurred in a slaughterhouse in Siero and in the vicinity of the Mieres slaughterhouse, informs CdeComunicacion portal.
The attacks are targeting small enterprises in the meat industry and that raises concern among the members of the Asturian Association of Meat Industries, ASINCAR.
84 companies have been warned by the leaders of the association to take supplementary security measures in the light of the attacks.
"We are concern about the damage that these events may cause in companies in the sector. It is not an isolated event since in recent days the organization would have shown the intention to attack companies engaged in the marketing of meat products in the region", president of ASINCAR, Cesar García, declared in a statement.
Investigators called these actions a new form of terror, "animal terrorism", and they might be right considering the fact that France is also confronted lately with a series of attacks that target butchershops, restaurants and other small enterprises in the meat sector.
